Reflection:
Serving as a building principal at any level requires a strong systemic view on literacy and numeracy programming in order to ensure learning and success for each child. I am grateful that my practicum experience offered me multiple opportunities to grow significantly in this competency. First and foremost, leading the development of our K-12 academic competencies for math, language arts, science and social studies gave me a big picture view on the K-12 vertical alignment of learning across our system. Also, serving as a support on our K-6 and 7-12 language arts resource review teams has allowed me the opportunity to apply learning around this competency in a very practical way in the selection of high quality resources. Lastly, joining principal meetings focused on the implementation of standard work has given me a ground level view how data review and identification of next steps is foundational for supporting literacy and numeracy schoolwide. This competency is one I look forward to continuing to develop more deeply each year as an instructional leader.
