Reflection:
Coming into my graduate studies, I had some level of experience with human resource management given my background as a continuous improvement and innovation coach which is a layer of support embedded in our district's Teacher Learning and Evaluation program. That said, I was still very much in need of widening both my scope and deepening my learning as it relates to all aspects of human resources management as an educational leader. Through courses such as Adult Learning and Supervision, Personnel, and Staff Development and PreK-12 School Administration, I grew significantly in my understanding of concepts such as creating quality staff development, hiring and retaining effective personnel, understanding the legal requirements of managing staff, and relations and contract and benefit administration. These components of educational leadership are critical as they set the groundwork for getting the right people into our schools, and creating the support systems that ensure they continue to thrive and grow once they are there.
